Borne of a love for Do-It-Youself (DIY) crafting, Exuberant by Gracelyn features fashion accessories that are carefully and consciously handcrafted by her designer, Gracelyn, who is presently a fashion student.
Currently exclusively available online, Exuberant by Gracelyn seeks to establish her identity as an alternative from the multifarious online stores with the ubiquitous, mass-market offerings. Instead, the label chooses to invest itself in the pushing the boundaries of the initial concept and dedication to workmanship. This subsequently translates into lavish products with boasting of uncompromised quality.
I see myself as more of an explorer than a designer. I venture into things that interest me, which I also feel will intrigue others. I learn and gain inspiration from observing people, their fascinations and personal styles
In a similar vein, the collection pieces are conceptualized as a response to a Void. Concepts for the collection pieces are birthed from what Gracelyn perceives to be lacking in the market or even improvements on tried-and-tested DIY Projects.
Take the Leather Slash Drop Bag for an example. The classic DIY shopper tote is reinvented as Gracelyn perforates its surface, challenging the initial perceived conceptual notion of the bag.
Ironically, the minimalism of her design is an antithesis to Gracelyn’s vibrant and colourful persona style
The rationale behind the choice of materials for the pieces is also thought provoking - Gracelyn deliberately chooses materials that are uncommon in the making of a particular item, thus stretching the potential of the material and concurrently, reinventing the notion of said item.
See - Leather and chain bound rings, PVC bowties and plastic utensil bangles and chains of leather.
Ironically, the minimalism of her design is an antithesis to Gracelyn’s vibrant and colourful persona style. Gracelyn insists that the minimalism in her design draws attention to the well-crafted details of the pieces. Furthermore, just as her designs provide an alternative perception of preconceived notions, the minimalism in her design reflects an alternative aesthetic to her vibrant style.
Demystifying the notion of the designer, Gracelyn perceives the process of designer to be one of exploration. “I see myself as more of an explorer than a designer. I venture into things that interest me, which I also feel will intrigue others. I learn and gain inspiration from observing people, their fascinations and personal styles, and these have translated into the conceptualization of my designs.
Exuberant by Gracelyn is looking forward to expand itself to include a clothing line under the label in the near future.
