CELEBRATE THE BEST OF YOU

“Who is the best of you?” was the question posed to the public in June 2014 by Julie’s, the Malaysian household snack manufacturer for biscuits snacks. Members of the public were invited to share their personal stories and submit photographs that best represented their response on the official website.

The Best of You Exhibition at the Central Atrium of Marina Square

50 stories were carefully selected out of close to 800 submissions to show at The Best of You Exhibition at the Central Atrium in Marina Square alongside artworks by established and up-and-coming local artists and talents who were inspired by the initiative. Such prominent works include film screenings by Royston Tan and Boo Junfeng and an edible chocolate art installation created by Janice Wong of 2am:dessertbar. Other artists who present their works include photographer Alecia Neo, filmmaker Martin Hong and illustrator, Lim Qi Xuan.

Mr. Sai Tzy Horng, consultant and spokesperson for The Best of You, said it best at the official launch, “The Best of You Exhibition is our tribute to all the inspiring and empowering stories that have given voice to the often neglected, forgotten or marginalized parts of society. We live in such a fast-paced world of strangers where it is increasingly difficult for us to share with or listen to each other.”

WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED WITH THE MOVEMENT WAS TO CREATE AN OPPORTUNITY AND REALLY, A SAFE SPACE WHERE PEOPLE COULD REFLECT AND CONTEMPLATE ON THEIR LIVES WHILE PROVIDING OTHERS THE CHANCE TO LISTEN. WE HOPE THAT THE BRAVE AND POWERFUL STORIES WE HAVE GATHERED TILL TODAY, HAVE HELPED TO BRING OUR COMMUNITY CLOSER TOGETHER IN AN EFFORT TO CELEBRATE HUMANITY.

Open free to the public from 22 to 26 October from 11am to 9pm, the exhibition will see sharing sessions with comedian Kumar and multi-hyphenate Michelle Chong as well as partnering organizations, like the founder of Humans of Singapore Shitij Nigam, cancer survivor Ezzy Wang, the Yellow Ribbon Project and MINDS. Artist Teresa Lim will be conducting embroidery workshops with special performances by father and son busking duo Qute and choir medley Super Trouper from MINDS warming the hearts of those present across this weekend.

Let’s celebrate Singapore’s everyday unsung heroes with Julie’s and be reminded of who and what makes the best of you. Visit the website for the schedule and more information.
