Upon stepping into the gallery space, one is welcomed by a sense of familiarity by the artworks displayed. HDB blocks, iconic 90s playground feature and rippling waves are what one will see painted on the canvases. Benny Teo, the artist behind these works, uses everyday spaces as his subjects with the aim of recreating the sense of ambience that identifies the environments he depicts. Another artist who explores an everyday theme is Jaxton Su, an oil painter behind a series of surreal artworks. In one of his works featured, he portrays an adolescent who is holding a smartphone in a glasshouse that is placed at the ground level of a HDB block. This imagery parallels the common judgment of the younger generation, who is otherwise known as the ‘strawberry generation’, by those who fall under ‘generation Y’ or older.
